Known to be the very first neighborhood which led to the modern-day City we know as Columbus, Franklinton was founded in 1797 by Lucas Sullivant. It’s denoted as the first settlement in the Scioto Valley north of Chillicothe and in Franklin County. Until the last few decades, the Franklinton area was prone to devastating flooding due to its location on a low-lying bend in the Scioto River which discouraged investment in the neighborhood. Since the completion of the floodwall and improvements to the Scioto Riverbed in the last several decades, there has been a revitalization in the area and a boom in development. Homes are highly desirable in this zip code and property values are steadily rising on pace with some of the fastest appreciating neighborhoods in the area. There’s no shortage of things to do in this creative community — COSi has anchored the west bank of the Scioto since they relocated in 1999 but recently spaces like the Idea Foundry, 400 W. Rich Street, Gravity and Strongwater Cafe have flourished in this neighborhood. The recently redesigned and reconstructed Veterans Memorial is the City’s latest addition to grace the west bank of the Scioto
