Hilliard was originally a small town developed around a railroad station on the Piqua and Indiana Railroad, known as Hilliard’s Station. Modern day Hilliard was born out of the suburban development boom of the 1950s and 1960s. Along with the housing subdivisions, development included the extension of the City of Columbus Water and Sewer systems to service the surrounding areas. The completion of I-270 and the regional shopping corridors along Hilliard-Rome Rd/Main St and Cemetery Road ensured that this once small railroad town would remain one of Columbus’ most sought after zip codes for homebuyers.
